A week at the studio-new rules-

Winter pansies before they are planted- acrylic on masonite, 12 x 16 inches

Still life with some stripes-    gouache on watercolor paper 8 x 8 inches

Blue light making it's way in through the window- acrylic on masonite, 9 x 12 inches

It became apparent that I spent more time worrying about doing the work well, badly or so and so,
than actually working. Obviously, I needed some new rules (not that I have ever followed any, but let's pretend).

Rule 1. - Never blog , answer emails, do treasuries or any computer stuff, EVER,before a full day's painting.
Rule 2. - Nine o'clock close the studio door, turn on the radio (thank you cbc2), and paint until five.
(but I can tweet- and really that's not cheating at all- just breaking the artist's isolation...)
Rule 3.- Nothing should prevent me from sticking with rules one and two. Nothing (ok.maybe lunch)

And so I did this week, and I painted larger and happier than ...probably years. Sad but happy.
Now, that bottle of wine.  Where is it? I am ready for the weekend. Cheers my sweets.

Hugs-

I love the new paintings. That pansy painting is gorgeous. What a good idea to write down rules--makes them more serious! I like your rule of painting before the computer even gets turned on. I wonder if I'm strong enough? :)

The way you block in your color, the solid feeling of the work is so unique. I just think these new pieces are wonderful. I have to paint without distraction too. Often play the same composers, like old friends with me while I work!

Thank you Julie. I love the radio because I want to be surprised when I listen to music, if I listened to my own selections only I would be so bored!!xx

I like your rules. I think I'll try my own version tomorrow. Writing first!
