Day 1- Orange wall
4x 6 inches, watercolor on Arches paper
Day 1- Winter
4 x 6 inches , watercolor on Arches paper
I took quite some time off this blog, and did a lot of cooking, baking and thinking . I hope you took some time off as well. I hope you feel refreshed.
I also thought a lot about what I learned last year, and even though 2013 was tough in many ways, the lessons were loud and clear:
1. Don't wait around for the perfect day.
2. Discipline works!
3. Keep it small if you have to.
4. Just do it!
5. Use the best watercolor paper ever. Perfection matters here.
Which is why I decided that this year's project will be 'A Year of Small'. Meaning small, 4 x 6 inches
watercolors for this blog five days a week. I am sure it will be a struggle as it was last year, and I am sure I will miss some days, but as I said I am not waiting around for the perfect 'anything' any more.
Well, one thing only has to be perfect and that is the quality of the paper I paint on. It just has to be the best Hot Press I can find. It does make a difference. Both during the process of painting, and after.
I have explored many different approaches in the past four years. I can't help myself, I am too curious about everything and anything. But my themes have always remained constant, intimate and personal. So far I have been after clarity and structure. This year I want to bring it all together while focusing more on 'mood' and my emotional connections with things, not just painting as an observer.
Finally, I want to thank you for all your support, comments, and friendship. You have been wonderful, patient readers! Thank you, thank you!

Wonderful inspirational post as always, and I love the 5 points, especially 'don't wait around for the perfect day', or the perfect moment!
I'm way too curious too. My work has been all over the place, but I try to not worry too much, because it's all about exploring.
Can't wait to see all your small pieces. I love the idea (I might have to do a month of it myself!)
Wishing you a sensationally creative year dear Annamaria! xo

You are already off to a great start this year! Looking forward to all of the wonderful small work you create this year which will undoubtedly have big impact! :)
I thought I had commented this morning but I guess it didn't register! your approach and self awareness is inspiring. a great way to focus as an artist and not easy to do objectively but you are realistic and pragmatic. these qualities together with your talent and love of the world around you will make your coming year of small one to look out for!
Maureen, thank you very much, what a lovely, kind message.
Thank you so much Holly! I really appreciate, and I am encouraged by your kind words.
