I wish I could - I know I can-

Boy in the sea- (summer memories 1)-Gouache on paper

The week has ended and I am frustrated. What works in my sketchbooks doesn't quite happen in the final works. I worked on a painting for three days, and had to chuck it in the end. One more bad painting is just bringing me closer to a better painting, right? I kept this boy. Every good painting also brings me a step closer to a better painting. And so the story goes.
I wish I could. I know I can.

Hugs-

I identify with every word.

In one art class, the teacher told us to bring a painting we hated. We didn't know what she had in store for us. She asked us to cut the painting into squares, rearrange the squares and glue them to a new piece of paper leaving room to add new elements between them. I ended up with a work I never would have otherwise made and I loved it. :)

I have the same problem, I seem to loose the freedom that I have in my sketchbook when I work on larger paintings. Love your colours and the palette looks like a lovely abstract painting :)

i can also identify w/ your frustration! your art is perfection and i would actually love to see the ones you tossed out.... i'll bet they are not half as awful as you think!
love this little swimmer boy <3

Dear Annamaria
good days :-D bad days :-(
You are right, it is a path and one leads to another sometimes you can make it work sometimes it just isn't going to especially when you try too hard.
I like Kathleen's experience.
and this is a lovely painting.

this boy reminds me watching my son getting in the sea
although only his back is visible one can sense his eagerness

Love this painting and you should have joined the drawing challenge of Rachel this week - the theme was "swim".

Unfortunately I believe we can't produce good paintings without also making bad ones...but it is a bitter pill. Sounds like you are moving past this one with a good attitude- love this boy :)

I adore the view of your working space and this gorgeous little work in your book!

Ahhh... the dreaded push and pull of the studio... its surely a love/hate thing all too often.

I sometimes had decided something was completely without merit only to discover much later it signified a new development and was curiously of value not first appreciated.
Good working Annamaria... to me it looks like its all happening .... beautifully so!

I love this boy Annamaria! He is amazing! I so know what you mean about bad days. Hang in there. I usually find I've learned something even with the worst outcomes. Kx
