Day 156- Study with pink sweater
9 x 12 inches, acrylics on paper
I think what I have been trying to say is that it is better to have the story revealed in a painting
through the act of painting itself, rather than dictating it. Also, painting without a specific idea in mind can reveal multiple story lines which is more interesting. Of course the only reason I like to see stories in paintings is that it increases my pleasure in them. And then yesterday when I painted this
I knew it was finished because visually it was complete, and it is only the first paragraph of a story but that is fine too. There really doesn't have to be any story but a story, or even better multiple stories makes it much more attractive. So am I really saying I am painting just for pleasure? Hmm...yes. (Lets face it we stay alive because life is pleasurable even when it sucks)
(Sorry for all the blabbering...)

you have the ability to paint a great painting whether you tell a story or not! i think that you can successfully do both! in the last painting i was drawn by the woman drinking coffee as well as the dynamic tones and color you chose! the painting stayed with me for two days! love all of your work!
It is very important to me to understand why I am so compelled to paint , often against all common sense and wisdom. That is the source of my ramblings...I really appreciate your comment though. Thank you very much.
i love your ramblings - they also help me to reflect on why i paint! some days i know why and some days i don't!!
Thank you for enjoying the ramblings! I was actually quite shocked when I realized I am such a pleasure driven person, I never thought so of myself, and how funny is that. Never too late to learn I guess. ;-)
