Day 24- Coffee break-

Day 24- Coffee break
4x6 inches watercolor on Arches HP

I have spent the last three mornings sorting through things in the studio. Which is another way of saying I am throwing things out, and feeling much lighter for it. It is an invaluable exercise in sorting out what you really love, what really works and why.

Day 16- 'Safeway daffodils'

Day 16- 'Safeway' daffodils
6 x 8 inches, watercolor on Arches HP

(...)"  'daffodil' is said to be derived from 'affodil', a variant spelling of 'asphodel', of which daffodils were at one time considered a form. The asphodel was the flower of the Elysian Fields, the heaven of the Greek and Roman poets where the souls of the dead strolled " (...)

This one pot of daffodils is from Safeway, not from heavenly fields, very unassuming really, in a very ordinary setting as well, not Elysian like at all. (and yet who knows maybe this is as good as it gets, making a quick watercolor first thing in the morning, in a comfortable home, with a contented family)

Day 11- Inside- outside

Day 11- Inside -outside
6 x 6 inches, watercolor on Arches HP paper

I think I do my best work when I paint directly, translating what I see and what pleases me
with simplicity, trying to get the essence of the thing , but with a touch of humor.
A raw, maybe 'odd' shape makes my heart skip.
Right now I am trying to 'weed things out'. (Stop taking myself too seriously-again)

Day 5- When your Muse has taken a day off-

Day 5- Tulip season (When your Muse has taken a day off)
5 x 7 inches, watercolor and gouache

I am slowly replacing my watercolors with gouache. Each time a tube finishes I buy
the equivalent color in acrylic gouache. I have come to really appreciate the way gouache can have a substantial feel of 'body' but can also be very, deliciously transparent.
Generally I feel ms.Muse has been quiet, but it comforts me to know this usually happens right before she comes up with some new, sudden push forward. Trust
your Muse when she 's quiet...Keep working.

Day 22- Start at the beginning-

Day 22- Start at the beginning
watercolor 8,5 x 11 inches

There are a few monsters out there that I am called to battle with.
Not unusual monters , just your typical-everyday- everybody-has-them-monsters.
One of them is called :feeling-helpless. I have decided to beat that one early on in the day.
Battle done and over with first thing in the morning. (but every morning)
The minute I get out of bed I make my mental decision to trash that sorry beast, and I don't look back...(blowing at my smoking gun now...)

Hugs-

These days-

Making bread in the morning- It takes me fifteen minutes-

But then, the simplest of meals becomes something quite special-

Meanwhile, I am working my way through one hundred miniatures-

Which didn't start abstract, but abstraction pushed it's way in-

I can't rest, can I?
My mind is in a knot-
and I am slowly and carefully
trying to turn the maze into a river-
Flow-
breathe-
smell rosemary...
there it is-
I have learned to bake bread, haven't I?
I added some rosemary to my loaf this morning-
an experiment that seems will turn out just fine-
Yes, it will.
All will turn out just fine.
I trust-
