Desk Thursday

Picked up the acrylics today, reworking an older painting. Large canvas, big brushes. I realised I needed an even bigger brush. I was happy at the end. But I never know until a month or two pass by how really 'good' a painting is. At least I know its working 'better' than when I started with it this morning. I changed the shape of the man reading, I was going to take him away completely but suddenly I really wanted him there. I couldn't bear scraping him away. Everything seemed happy with everything else. I didn't want to change a thing. Just to sit there and look at it. I am hanging a small show at a coffee shop on Thursday. I have a few paintings but there are three that really move me. So that is good.
It is good enough.
When do you know when things are 'good enough'?

Oh, I change my mind about that all the time. What is good enough on one day is not the next... and sometimes I want to rewind and go back to the first, sometimes enjoying the sketches more than the clean up versions. Fun fun!

Hi Annamaria! Good question. I suppose we often "just know", don't we? It's hard to tell when you're working to a deadline though... that changes things I think. So glad you have some you are happy to have in the exhibition... that should take the pressure off :)
Good luck! I hope it all goes well! :))) Kylie x

I think it's good enough when you don't want any more of it! But maybe I'm lazy!! Good luck with the show.

Wish I could be there. I am so hoping to see photos. I think that question is hard for me, mainly because the line between perfection and contentment in all things is never clear. I think I tend to embrace imperfection and contentment more than striving and perfection. In any case if you can smile and say hey I kind of like it...it is definitely enough, don't you think? xoxo
Happy weekend to you, friend.

you are good re-working work! i'm usually too worried that the changes won't help, so i don't go there :)
i like your sketch in the background.
it can be so tricky knowing sometimes. i have to discipline myself to stop and think~ unless i have a clear idea of what will go next, i just leave it!
good luck with your show :)

oh the elusive question as always...i get differing ideas of good, but on any given day if your art moves you I would say good enough! wish I was sitting at the corner table Thursday....
