About pink art, grown-up children, and chocolate making-

New photos of 'revisited' artwork.

Very happy with this little one. I was afraid of using this pink, but
it really turned out to be the best choice. There is so much gorgeous texture that has built up with
all the layers of acrylic and a few pieces of cut paper collaged under all the layers.

Here I used a very intense orange. I love the way it has an odd
sort of quality, like a strange, unfamiliar sound that makes your head turn.
The orange is fairly flat and 'manufactured', like some sort of industrial colour,
but the drawn parts of the artwork are soft and greyish and familiar.
Odd but lovable.
I tagged them on Etsy as 'urban primitive'- The 'primitive' coming from
using my memories to draw from.

The  shapes and forms are organic, and relate to
the human body and forms in landscape.
But the colours are definitely derived from 'urban' experiences-

Ok. On a different note, I have to tell you that the benefit of having older children around, is
that you can use them as models, and  have them cook too!
Rea made these :)( a Greek version ,I suppose, of 'eggs Benedict', with tomatoes and feta...)
And the little bowl, is a lovely purchase from Etsy! You can check it out here
And ,finally, my sweets, what is food and art, and how can children be children ,really, without chocolate?-

A new print- from a series I am working on these days. It's a reproduction of a mixed media piece made
with pencil, ink and watercolor.

And a new  Etsy treasury here. About being at home and dreaming of the beach- Do you catch yourself dreaming of the beach too?

Emotional spaces- more of-

mixed media- 5 x 7 inches- 'he had support again'
mixed media- 5 x 7 inches,'homemaker in the meadow'
mixed media, 5 x 7 inches,'only a pair of gray wings
mixed media, 5 x 7 inches,' like himself, but wonderfully not like himself either'

I used, watercolor, thread, graphite pencil. I am also working in the same spirit on larger works in acrylic.
I can't get myself out of the studio, I am absolutely loving this process. I love the lyrical elements, but I have also always craved for order, oh how I crave for order (and fight it in the same breath)...I am at a place that satisfies both worlds, and allows me plenty of space for experimentation in terms of mark making and layering.
I hope your week has started off well.

Familiar places-

My sweet vacation-(a girl can dream..)
My nest is the best ( corny I know, but sometimes you just have to give in ...!)
Small domestic- It's an older one, but I love the sweetness of the painted surface and the implication of violence in the title. What is a small domestic?
All watercolors. All 5 x 7 inches.

Emotional spaces-

Whereas the daffodils made their own emotional statement-
the complex nature of appearances-
the unpredictable season of the daffodils-
brought to an emotional landscape-

Where the titles are equal parts of the watercolors-

A successful show and planning what's next-

Thank you all you lovely people who came by and were interested and enthusiastic and supportive in so many ways! I took photos in the beginning of the opening reception so it appears quiet whereas it was really, really crowded!!! Yay!!! At the back is the wall with the work of Riitta Peirone.
This wall has Jane Hennessy's work. Riitta is standing on the left .
My wall!!
Jeniffer Mitton discussing her paintings!
Jane Hennessy holding flowers!
And now the time has come to plan again,  set new goals. I feel this part of my work which is very immersed in my autobiographical story-telling is coming to an end. I strongly feel it is a chapter closed.

Right now, I have many, many sketches and watercolors that I am  revisiting and working into paintings.
Seriously planning:

  • time

  • money

  • more shows

  • new studio?

  • a new series-

  • rethinking the way this blog is put together- I want to focus on the work and what's happening in the studio-

  • soon...

    sketchbook page

This is a small watercolor from an old sketchbook. After the figurative work for the show was completed
I went back to one of my favorite things. Painting watercolors by the seaside.

From inside my car, because it has been raining continuously...

I found this link-here- if you have a few minutes please do listen
to Chimamanda Adichie, a brilliant Nigerian novelist, speak about the 'danger of the single story'! Last
spring I became very conscious as to how 'my own single story, the one  that I had scripted
for myself'' was limiting me and I wanted out...Remember the installation? So when I heard her
thoughts I was moved and inspired!

    Happy in her body-

I feel a new kind of freedom-

I thought this was like choreography-
    a choreographed drawing-

The model was happy in her body-
    which was liberating in itself-
a woman happy in her body.
    That's something.
The older I get the happier I am in my body.

I have embrassed my flaws (well, quite)
When I was seventeen I was bulimic. Bulimic, as a term didn't exist then, I think.
I took so many laxatives I created holes in my intestines. The doctors thought it was something else.
    Noone knew.
So I celebrate women happy in their bodies.
And I am one of them!!!Yay!!
    And a treasury here!

    Hugs!
